EU grants €80 million to support Jordan’s efforts in hosting Syrian refugees
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The European Commission approved on Sunday an additional €80 million in funding to assist Jordan in hosting Syrian refugees and supporting affected host communities.
The new package aims to enhance social protection, provide essential services, and promote sustainable solutions for displaced Syrians in the country.
According to the Commission’s statement, the funding responds to “rapid and unforeseen needs” resulting from the ongoing Syrian crisis, deteriorating economic conditions, and the spillover effects of the war in Gaza.
It also addresses the continued fragility of refugee communities and the decline in international funding to humanitarian programs in Jordan.
The decision includes financial flexibility allowing adjustments of up to €10 million—or 20 percent of the total allocation—to adapt to emerging needs.
With the latest package, the EU’s total support to Jordan in 2025 rises to €173 million, including €93 million under the multiannual plan and €80 million under this special measure.
The EU stressed that the aid contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by ensuring protection, education, and social assistance for the most vulnerable refugees and by supporting long-term stability in host communities.
Jordan hosts over 1.3 million Syrians, including about 650,000 registered refugees. The protracted Syrian conflict and regional instability have strained Jordan’s economy and public services, prompting continuous international assistance.
