Israeli airstrikes kill, wound 8 in southern Lebanon
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israeli warplanes launched on Saturday dawn a series of intense airstrikes on the southern Lebanese village of Msayleh, killing one person and wounding seven others, the Lebanese Health Ministry announced.
According to the ministry, the victim was a Syrian citizen, while the injured included one Syrian and six Lebanese nationals, among them two women.
The pre-dawn airstrikes struck a site that sold heavy machinery, destroying a large number of vehicles and temporarily cutting off the main highway linking Beirut with parts of southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar TV reported that a vehicle carrying vegetables was hit while passing near the site, killing one person and injuring another.
The Israeli army later said in a statement that the strikes targeted a storage area for machinery allegedly intended for reconstructing Hezbollah’s infrastructure in the south.
The bombardment marks one of the most intense Israeli attacks in recent weeks as cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah continue to escalate amid fears of a broader regional conflict.
Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have been steadily rising since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023. The Lebanese group, backed by Iran, has launched frequent rocket and drone attacks on northern Israel, describing its operations as support for Hamas.
In response, Israel has carried out near-daily air and artillery strikes across southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah positions and suspected infrastructure.
The ongoing hostilities have displaced tens of thousands on both sides of the border, raising concerns of an all-out war reminiscent of the 2006 Lebanon-Israel conflict. Despite international mediation efforts, sporadic clashes and airstrikes continue to threaten stability along the volatile frontier.
