The announcement was reported by the U.S.-based Axios website, citing a high-ranking Israeli source who stated: “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to hold a decisive discussion tomorrow regarding negotiations with Syria.”
The development follows remarks made by Syrian Transitional President Ahmad Shara on Friday, who indicated that U.S.-mediated negotiations with Israel are nearing a potential agreement that could be finalized within days. Speaking to the Turkish newspaper Milliyet, Shara emphasized: “Any agreement with Israel does not imply normalization of relations with Tel Aviv.”
Earlier this week, two senior Israeli sources told an Israeli channel that, despite U.S. efforts to reach a security agreement with Syria, significant gaps remain between the two sides.
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that Washington is exerting pressure to narrow these gaps, quoting Israeli sources: “U.S. pressure has achieved progress in the negotiations, but the agreement is still not mature.”
