Raqqa hosts exhibition marking International Day of the disappeared
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Families of the Missing Platform in northeast Syria organized a photo exhibition in Raqqa on Saturday to honor missing persons, coinciding with the International Day of the Disappeared.
Abbas Mousa, coordinator of the Families of the Missing Platform, told North Press that 22 families participated in the exhibition, representing hundreds of other families across northeast Syria and various regions of the country. He added: “The issue of missing persons is complex, but it is fundamental. Peace in Syria cannot be achieved without resolving it, revealing the fate of the missing, and ensuring justice for their families.”
Mousa noted that the platform includes around 600 families and serves as a safe space for relatives of the missing to seek empowerment, advocate for their rights, and address this complex issue within the Syrian context, in addition to engaging in broader advocacy efforts.
On Friday, the International Committee of the Red Cross reported that over the past 14 years, more than 37,000 people have been registered as missing in Syria.
The exhibition reflects ongoing efforts by civil society organizations in northeast Syria to preserve the memory of the missing, support affected families, and raise awareness of unresolved cases amid the country’s broader humanitarian and security challenges.
