DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Iraqi army announced on Saturday that its air force targeted Islamic State (ISIS) cells in Salah al-Din Governorate, north of Baghdad, killing several militants.

In a statement, Iraq’s Security Media Cell said, “Iraqi F-16 aircraft carried out a dawn strike on Saturday, targeting a hideout belonging to ISIS elements, killing all terrorists inside.”

The statement added that the strike also destroyed weapons, equipment, and communication devices that were located inside the hideout.

According to the Iraqi military, the operation was part of ongoing efforts by government forces to eliminate ISIS remnants still active in remote areas. Intelligence gathered by the Joint Operations Command reportedly enabled the identification of a safehouse in Wadi al-Shay, east of Salah al-Din.

“The operation comes as a continuation of offensive security work carried out by our armed forces to get rid of the remnants of ISIS gangs,” the statement continued.

The Security Media Cell confirmed that the destroyed hideout in Saturday’s strike had been used as a staging ground for ISIS cells operating in the region. No Iraqi casualties were reported in the operation.
