Car bomb detonates near Damascus Mezzeh, security forces deployed

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – An explosion occurred on Saturday near the Mezzeh neighborhood, west of the Syrian capital Damascus, according to local sources. No casualties have been reported.

Eyewitnesses told North Press that the blast took place close to the Golden Hotel, located near the headquarters of the Syrian Ministry of Information. The explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted inside an old vehicle parked in the area.

Residents in the vicinity reported hearing a loud detonation, which prompted security units to immediately deploy across the neighborhood. “We saw security forces arriving quickly, closing off the street and preventing cars from passing,” a local resident said.

North Press correspondent in Damascus confirmed that units of the General Security Directorate were present at the scene, inspecting the site and surrounding streets. The area remained cordoned off for several hours following the incident.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the bombing, and the motives behind the attack remain unclear. Syrian state authorities have not issued any statement regarding the incident at the time of publication.

Local media circulated photos of the vehicle in which the device was planted, showing significant material damage but no reports of injuries or fatalities.

The blast comes amid heightened security alerts across several Syrian cities following recent attacks and clashes in different regions of the country.

Authorities are expected to release further information as investigations continue.
