France seeks new arrest warrant for Assad over 2013 chemical attacks
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office requested on Monday a new international arrest warrant against former Syrian regime president Bashar al-Assad, just days after a previous warrant was overturned.
The renewed request accuses al-Assad of responsibility for chemical attacks carried out in Syria in 2013.
Last Friday, France’s Court of Cassation annulled the initial arrest warrant against al-Assad, who currently resides in Russia after fleeing Syria.
This move follows the French judiciary’s controversial cancellation of the original warrant.
