Trump hails airstrikes on Iran as war-ending move, signals possible talks

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that his country’s strikes ended the Iran-Israel war, announcing that Washington will seek a commitment from Tehran to abandon its nuclear ambitions during talks with Iranian officials scheduled for next week.

He praised the U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites as the decisive factor in halting the conflict between Iran and Israel.

Speaking at the NATO summit in The Hague, Trump defended his decision to launch bunker-busting strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities on June 22, claiming the attacks effectively ended the war. “It’s a victory for everyone,” he said.

Trump appeared to dismiss an initial assessment by the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency, which indicated that Iran’s path to developing a nuclear weapon may have been delayed only by a few months.

“I believe they didn’t have a chance to get anything out, because we acted fast,” Trump said. He added that “it’s very hard to move that kind of material, and very dangerous.”

The U.S. president asserted that American and Iranian officials will talk next week, giving rise to cautious hope for longer-term peace. “We may sign an agreement, I don’t know,” Trump said. “The way I look at it, they fought, the war is done.”

Trump expressed confidence that Tehran would now choose a diplomatic path to resolve the issue. “I don’t care if I have an agreement or not,” Trump said, because Iran was too badly damaged to even consider rebuilding its program. “They’re not going to be doing it anyway. They’ve had it.”
