US-Iran talks deemed “promising” as Trump announces ceasefire

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Steve Witkoff, Middle East envoy for U.S. President Donald Trump, described on Tuesday ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran as “promising,” expressing hope for a long-term peace agreement with the Islamic Republic.

“We are already talking to each other, not just directly but also through interlocutors,” Witkoff said in an interview on Fox News. “I think that the conversations are promising.”

“Now its for us to sit down with the Iranians and get to a comprehensive peace agreement, and I am very confident that we are going to achieve that,” he added.

In a significant development late Tuesday evening, Trump announced that a comprehensive ceasefire agreement had been reached between Iran and Israel, marking a rare moment of de-escalation after months of rising tensions in the region.
