Shooting in U.S. leaves two Israeli Embassy staff members dead
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – A shooting claimed on Thursday the lives of two staff members of the Israeli Embassy near the Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. during an event being held at the site.
NBC News quoted officials that the suspect shouted “Free, Free Palestine” while being taken into custody.
The Israeli Embassy in Washington later announced that the two victims, a man and a woman, were employees of the embassy.
Washington, D.C., police identified the shooter as 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez. He was apprehended at the scene, and authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the attack.
U.S. President Donald Trump condemned the shooting in a post on Truth Social, writing, “These horrible D.C. killings, based obviously on antisemitism, must end, NOW! Hatred and Radicalism have no place in the USA. Condolences to the families of the victims.”
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also denounced the attack on X, calling it “a brazen act of cowardly, antisemitic violence. Make no mistake: we will track down those responsible and bring them to justice.”
