Israeli airstrikes kill over 100 in Gaza as new ceasefire talks stall
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Israeli airstrikes killed at least 100 people in Gaza as international mediators launched a new round of ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas, Reuters reported on Sunday.
The Israeli military announced Saturday that it had begun a major new offensive in Gaza, intensifying operations across the enclave.
Khaled al-Dakran, a spokesperson for the Gaza Health Ministry, told Reuters by phone, “We have at least 100 martyrs since overnight. Complete families were wiped off the civil registration record by Israeli bombardment,”
The Israeli army, which has escalated its airstrikes since Thursday in preparation for a new ground assault aimed at achieving “operational control” over parts of Gaza, has not commented on the latest attacks.
Meanwhile, Egyptian and Qatari mediators, backed by the United States, began fresh indirect negotiations with Hamas on Saturday. However, sources close to the talks told Reuters that progress has been minimal.
A Hamas official, contacted by the agency, said: “Israel’s position is unchanged, they want their prisoners released, without a commitment to end the war.”
