Northeastern oil fields a political issue beyond our jurisdiction – Syrian Official
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Ahmad Suleiman, Director of Public Relations and Advertising at Syria’s Ministry of Oil in the caretaker government, stated that the oil fields under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in northeastern Syria are a political matter and do not fall within the ministry’s authority.
In an exclusive interview with North Press, Suleiman explained that addressing the issue of these fields is a decision for the political administration, emphasizing its political rather than technical nature.
Suleiman further noted that oil fields reclaimed by the new administration have been assessed and found to be in “very poor technical condition due to overexploitation by Assad regime-affiliated gangs.”
He revealed that the ministry is currently in the process of gathering data on these fields and wells to develop them in collaboration with specialized companies.
Suleiman also mentioned that the ministry is opening tenders for the supply of oil and gas, inviting both public and private companies to participate.
Additionally, the official disclosed that the ministry has received promises for the delivery of oil derivatives to Syria “in the coming days.”
