American politician rules out U.S. abandoning SDF in Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Hazem Alghabra, a politician and former advisor at the U.S. State Department, ruled out on Tuesday the possibility of the U.S. abandoning its allies the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Syria.

In a statement to North Press, Alghabra emphasized, “Abandoning Washington’s allies in northeastern Syria is neither logical nor politically or socially desirable within the United States.”

On Monday evening, Mazloum Abdi, Commander in Chief of the SDF, congratulated Donald Trump on assuming the presidency. In his message, Abdi expressed hope for continued cooperation to achieve stability, combat terrorism, and promote peace in northeastern Syria.

Alghabra added that the new U.S. administration will work to find a reasonable solution to resolve the challenges in northeastern Syria and de-escalate the confrontation between Turkey and the SDF.

He further highlighted that any changes in the U.S. military presence in the Middle East would only occur with political guarantees to safeguard the interests of the communities in northeastern Syria.

Regarding broader regional priorities, Alghabra stated that the Trump administration’s immediate focus will be on addressing the Iranian issue. He remarked, “An American strike on Iran is imminent.”
