France’s support for Kurds reflects fears of ISIS resurgence – Politician

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Ibrahim Shuaib, a political analyst based in Paris, said on Wednesday that France’s vocal support for the Kurds in Syria reflects broader European fears of the Islamic State (ISIS) exploiting regional instability to launch attacks on a global scale.

Shuaib told North Press that France and other European nations are deeply concerned about the potential resurgence of ISIS and its ability to extend its reach into Europe.

He highlighted that France views the Kurds as key allies in countering the ISIS threat, which underpins its continued support for Kurdish representation and participation in Syria’s political process.

On Jan. 6, French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed France’s commitment to the Kurdish fighters who have been on the front lines in the fight against terrorism in Syria. Macron emphasized that France would remain steadfast in supporting freedom fighters like the Kurds, who combat terrorism, particularly ISIS.

In late December 2024, French forces carried out airstrikes targeting ISIS positions in Syria, underscoring their ongoing commitment to combating the terrorist group.
