ISIS cells attack Asayish checkpoints in NE Syria

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) announced on Sunday that Islamic State (ISIS) cells carried out targeted attacks on security checkpoints in northeastern Syria.

The Asayish said in a statement that ISIS cells attacked a checkpoint in the town of Arisha, south of Hasakah. The assault, involving two vehicles, resulted in injuries to two Asayish members.

Following the attack, security units launched a sweeping operation in the area.

In a separate statement, the Asayish disclosed that they successfully foiled an attempted ISIS assault on a checkpoint in the village of Sabha in the Deir ez-Zor countryside.

The statement also highlighted an escalation in ISIS activity, noting that the group’s operations have extended to the city of Raqqa. The latest incident involved an attack on a checkpoint in the al-Kasrat area a few days earlier.

Furthermore, the Asayish emphasized that ongoing Turkish attacks in the region have created favorable conditions for ISIS to intensify its operations.
