SDF captures 16 ISIS members in Hawl Camp in NE Syria

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Saturday that they thwarted an escape attempt by cells of the Islamic State (ISIS) within the Hawl Camp in the countryside of Hasakah, northeastern Syria, capturing 16 militants of the group.

In an official statement published by the SDF, the Operation Room of “Enduring Security” said that during inspections, ISIS militants attempted to escape and relocate within sections of the camp, but all attempts were thwarted, and the individuals were apprehended.

On Nov. 6, the Operations Room, which includes the SDF, the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish), and the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), announced a new security operation, backed by the U.S.-led Global Coalition, in Hawl Camp to dismantle ISIS cells.

The SDF added that 16 ISIS cell members were captured, and a cache of weapons and ammunition was seized.

Security forces also uncovered two trenches used for hiding weapons and personnel within the camp.
