HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Thursday the capture of 40 members of the Islamic State (ISIS) in a security operation at Hawl Camp and surrounding areas in Hasakah countryside in Northeast Syria.
The Operation Enduring Security’s Operations Room issued a statement, detailing that several houses used as shelters by ISIS members had been raided.
On Wednesday, the Operations Room, which includes the SDF, the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish), and the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), announced a new security operation, backed by the U.S.-led Global Coalition, in Hawl Camp to dismantle ISIS cells.
“The operation forces conducted raids on several houses used as shelters by ISIS elements, engaging in clashes with two terrorist cells that opened fire. As a result, one terrorist was eliminated, and another was wounded during these clashes,” the statement read.
During the sweep, 40 ISIS operatives were arrested, and weapons and ammunition were seized.
The statement further reported that operations had successfully cleared the northern countryside of Hawl, large portions of the southern countryside, areas near the Syrian-Iraqi border, and dozens of natural caves used as possible hideouts by ISIS members.
