Unidentified gunmen kill government soldier in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified gunmen shot on Saturday a soldier of the Syrian government forces to death Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.
Local sources said that unknown gunmen targeted Nawaf al-Anbar, a soldier of the government’s Fourth Armored Division, resulting in his death.
Originally a former opposition militant, al-Anbar joined the Fourth Division after obtaining a settlement card during the 2018 reconciliation agreements in Daraa.
These agreements allowed former opposition members to receive amnesty and reintegrate into the government forces.
This incident adds to a growing number of assassinations in Daraa, where violence has persisted since the 2018 settlement agreement.
The region has witnessed hundreds of targeted killings, primarily of individuals affiliated with the government forces or ex-opposition members who joined the government.
To date, no group has claimed responsibility for these attacks, leaving the motives and perpetrators shrouded in mystery and contributing to the area’s ongoing instability.
