Coalition strikes Iranian militias after missile attack in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Iranian-backed militias allegedly launched on Tuesday a missile strike targeting the U.S.-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS near the Conoco oil field in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
In retaliation, Coalition forces swiftly responded with a counterattack, aiming at the source of the missile fire.
Reports indicate that the militias fired three missiles from the western bank of the Euphrates River, the controlled by the Syrian government forces.
Two of the missiles landed in agricultural areas near civilian homes in the town of al-Ozba, causing material damage but no casualties.
Further explosions were heard in the government-controlled towns and villages of al-Merei’iyah, Harabesh, and Jaffra following the Coalition’s retaliatory strikes.
These areas, which host government forces and Iranian-backed militias, were hit by artillery fire believed to be from the Coalition forces.
A military source from the Syrian government confirmed that three shells landed near the Division 17 headquarters in al-Merei’iyah.
Additional strikes impacted Harabesh and Jaffra at the entrance to the city of Deir ez-Zor, though no casualties or injuries were reported.
