Syrian government opens new reconciliation center in Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government opened on Monday a new reconciliation center for wanted individuals and military draft evaders in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.
A local source told North Press that the government’s security forces established this temporary reconciliation center in the city of Jassem, north of Daraa, to process settlements for defectors from the government forces, as well as civilians and those who have evaded compulsory or reserve military service.
The opening of the center was preceded by a visit from Brigadier General Louay Ali, head of the Military Security Branch, to the local Ba’ath Party headquarters where the center is located. He met with local dignitaries and leaders of local groups in the town.
According to the source, another meeting took place between local dignitaries and Ali Bash, one of the leaders of the Eighth Brigade affiliated with Military Intelligence. Bash requested that the locals hand over one weapon for every defector seeking a settlement.
On Monday, reconciliation was granted to 40 defectors from the government forces from Jassem, along with nearly 200 civilians and military service evaders.
The settlement provides a six-month grace period for draft evaders to report for military service and requires defectors to rejoin their units.
