ISIS targets fuel tankers in Deir ez-Zor, causing damage

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Militants from the Islamic State (ISIS) launched on Sunday an attack on fuel tankers in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, marking the second such incident this week.

A local source from the village of Ruwayshid in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor said that ISIS militants riding motorcycles opened fire on the tankers in the desert area.

The assault caused significant damage to two tankers, leaving one completely inoperable. Following the attack, the assailants retreated to an undisclosed location.

Deir ez-Zor Governorate, situated in eastern Syria, has experienced a resurgence of violence from militants affiliated with ISIS despite a decline in their territorial control.

The area, rich in oil resources, has become a target for ISIS attacks as the group seeks to undermine local stability and disrupt fuel supply lines critical to the economy.

Frequent assaults on oil facilities and transport vehicles have been reported, reflecting the militants’ ongoing capability and intent to assert influence in the region.

The recent attacks on fuel tankers highlight the persistent security challenges that area faces, as ISIS remnants continue to conduct operations against infrastructure and assets in the area.
