ISIS attack kills 3 Iranian-backed militants in Syrian Desert
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – An attack by the Islamic State (ISIS) killed late on Monday three militants of Iranian-backed militias in the Syrian Desert.
A military source close to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) told North Press that ISIS militants attacked an IRGC patrol traveling along the Homs-Palmyra road, using machine guns and rockets.
Intense clashes broke out, resulting in the death of three IRGC militants, one of whom was of Iraqi nationality, and wounding five others.
Following the clashes, ISIS militants retreated into the depths of the Palmyra desert.
The source further explained that the IRGC patrol had been en route to the village of Kabajib in the west of Deir ez-Zor to conduct a sweeping operation aimed at clearing ISIS cells in the desert and surrounding areas.
