Airstrikes kill 18 IRGC militants, including leader, in Deir ez-Zor

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Eighteen militants, including a senior leader from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), were killed late on Saturday in airstrikes, suspected by the U.S.-led Global Coalition, on military installations in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

A military source told North Press that airstrikes struck the house of an unnamed IRGC leader in the village of al-Heri near the town of Abu Kamal, east of Deir ez-Zor.

The source reported that the attack led to the leader’s death, along with three other militants.

In addition, the warplanes conducted further strikes against a rural development facility, a radar installation in the town of Harabesh, and an IRGC headquarters in the Bor Saeed neighborhood in Deir ez-Zor city, killing 14 and injuring others, according to the source.

Moreover, the source added that other airstrikes targeted Iranian military posts in the town of al-Mayadin and at the al-Hamdan airport in Abu Kamal. The exact number of casualties remains unreported.

Currently, Deir ez-Zor is experiencing a relative calm, marked by heightened caution and minimal military activity in areas controlled by the Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said a rocket, fired by Iranian-backed militias from areas controlled by the government forces, struck a U.S. base at the Conoco Oil Field in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
