IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – A former al-Qaeda leader was killed on Friday in a drone strike, reportedly carried out by the Global Coalition, in Idlib Governorate, northwestern Syria.
North Press correspondent, citing military sources, said that Abu Abdurrahman al-Makki, a former leader in al-Qaeda and a Saudi national, was killed this afternoon as a result of being targeted by a Coalition drone near the town of Ihsim in Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib.
The correspondent added that al-Makki was previously a leader in the al-Qaeda-affiliated group Jund al-Aqsa, and later served as a religious authority for the al-Qaeda-aligned group Hurras al-Din.
According to the same sources, the drone that targeted al-Makki was an MQ9 and fired HELLFIRE missiles, which have been used in several previous strikes against al-Qaeda leaders in northwestern Syria.
