AANES urges immediate end to government-led massacres in Deir ez-Zor

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) urged on Friday an immediate end to the massacre committed by the government forces against the civilians in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The AANES urged the international community to take action against the military escalation and massacres carried out by the government forces in the town of al-Dahla, east of Deir ez-Zor.

Early on Friday, the government forces shelled al-Dahla and Jadeed Bakkarah in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor with artillery and heavy weapons. The shelling resulted in the killing of 11 civilians and the injury of six others according to a statement by the Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

On Aug. 7, dozens of Syrian government-backed and Iranian-backed militants infiltrated villages and towns in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, controlled by the SDF, and launched a ground attack against areas on the eastern banks of the Euphrates River, east of Deir ez-Zor.

The AANES said, “The regime is reportedly supporting mercenary groups and orchestrating conflicts in the Deir ez-Zor region, in collaboration with Turkey and other forces, aiming to impose chaos and undermine efforts toward stability.”

“This move comes after its failed attempt over a year ago to break the will of the people of Deir ez-Zor and their resilient tribal leaders,” the AANES added.

With the resumption of shelling by the government forces on Friday morning, the towns of al-Dahla, Shuhail, al-Busayrah, and Sabha experienced mass displacement.
