Turkish forces shell residential villages in Syria’s Manbij

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces shelled on Friday residential villages in the countryside of Manbij in northern Syria that is run by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

Manbij Military council, a component of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said the Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), shelled the villages in the northern countryside of Manbij using artillery and mortars.

The council added that the villages of al-Asaliyah, Pak, Weran, and Awn Dadat were targeted with artillery and heavy weapons.

The Manbij Military Council did not report about casualties or any material damage.

Villages in the north of the city of Manbij experience frequent shelling and infiltration attempts by the Turkish forces and their SNA factions that result in casualties and material loss.

On Thursday, the Turkish forces and the SNA factions shelled the villages of al-Jat and al-Hoshariya, knowing that all the targeted villages are inhabited, the council noted.

The city of Manbij and its countryside are militarily run by the Manbij Military Council that was founded in 2017 from the communities of the area. The areas is administratively run by the Democratic Civil Administration of Manbij that is affiliated with the AANES.

The SDF supported by the U.S.-led Global Coalition liberated Manbij from the Islamic State (ISIS) in 2016 following fierce battles.
