Syrian government prepares to receive 700,000 tons of wheat

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian government announced on Monday that it expected to receive 700,000 tons of wheat during the 2024 harvesting season.

Director General of Public Establishment for Grain of the Syrian government, Sami Ghassan Hilel, said they have made all necessary preparations to receive this year’s season.

Hilel added that they prepared 44 centers for receiving the wheat crop whether in bulk storage or in sacks.

He expected the government to receive around 700,000 tons of grains for the 2024 harvesting season.

The official pointed out that they worked on preparing and maximizing the storage capacities, including concrete silos with a capacity of 1.2 million tons, metal silos with a capacity of 137,000 tons, and warehouses with a capacity of 435,000 tons. 

Earlier, the Syrian government fixed the price of purchasing the wheat crop by 5,500 SYP (equivalent to 36 U.S. cents) per kilogram.
