SDC urges UN to end Turkish airstrikes on NE Syria
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) urged on Tuesday the United Nations to put an end to Turkey’s ongoing interventions in Syria, and called on Syrian parties to unite to resolve the Syrian crisis.
The SDC said in a statement that the UN and its relevant bodies should put an end to Turkish interventions and violations of international laws and norms, and exert pressure on Turkey to respect Syria’s sovereignty and abide by the principles of good neighborliness.
The U.S. and Russia should fulfill their roles in safeguarding and implementing rules of international and humanitarian law. They called for a firm stance against Turkish ambitions and its extortionist policies, the statement added.
The SDC expressed concerns about the persistent state of division among Syrian parties, which has become the main reason for external interventions that are detrimental to the future of the Syrian people.
The statement stressed the importance of a political solution in Syria and achieving a democratic transition with a new constitution for a decentralized and pluralistic Syria, affirming the implementation of a roadmap presented at its fourth conference.
The SDC condemned Turkey’s policy of terror, destabilization, and targeting of civilians and service facilities under the pretext of protecting its “national security.”
On Dec.25, Turkey targeted 33 civilian and infrastructure facilities in Northeast Syria, including 20 in Qamishli, four in the town of Amuda, four in Kobani, one in the town of Tirbe Spiyeh (al-Qahtaniya), one in the city of Manbij, and three in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
The Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press documented the killing of 10 civilians, including two women, and the injury of 25 others, including seven women and two children.
