Unknown gunmen try to assassinate IRGC leader in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified gunmen attempted on Wednesday to assassinate a leader in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A source in the government forces told North Press that unknown gunmen riding a motorcycle attacked with a machinegun the vehicle of Hussein Kardoush, a local IRGC leader, near the main road in the town of al-Asharah in the east of Deir ez-Zor.
The attack resulted in the killing of Kardoush’s Iraqi escort.
Kardoush is in charge of security forces tasked with the protection of military facilities in the town.
The Military Security of the government forces were put on a high alert state in al-Asharah and the surrounding areas to pursue the unknown attackers, according to the source.
