SDF arrests ISIS leader in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Sunday conducting a security operation in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, arresting Islamic State (ISIS) leader.

The SDF Media Center reported that the SDF Special Unites targeted an ISIS terrorist cell in the town of al-Izba in northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The operation was supported by air surveillance and ground support by the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS.

The operation resulted in the arrest of an ISIS leader “who was involved in transporting explosive materials, weapons and ammunitions to ISIS cells” in Hawl camp in Hasakah Governorate, northeast Syria, and providing ISIS families with forged IDs.

He was also linked to other terrorists “Emirs” in the Turkish-occupied city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), northeast Syria, according to the SDF Media Center.

Hawl Camp, 45 km east of the city of Hasakah, houses 55.829 individuals, including 28.725 Iraqis, 18.850 Syrians and 8.254 of foreign nationalities, according to the latest statistics obtained by North Press.
