Government forces try to prevent strike in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces imposed on Sunday on some Imams of mosques to broadcast the prevention of a strike in the city of Nawa in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.
The government forces asked the Imams to use loudspeakers to inform the residents of the city not to take to the streets, according to local sources.
Some Imams obeyed the orders, while others refused to comply with the request of the government forces, the sources added.
Most of the neighborhoods of Nawa witnessed a general strike that included the commercial stores and public transportation in a protest against the deterioration of the economic situation.
The sources added the residents were determined to continue the strike, protests and escalation until reaching civil disobedience.
Earlier, the government forces contacted some notables to prevent the residents from striking, but the notables rejected.
On Saturday, Daraa and its countryside witnessed several protests in various areas, where the protesters called for “the overthrow of the Syrian regime and the immediate release of detainees.”
