Syrian government increases oil products prices, Assad raises wages
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government raised on Tuesday the prices of subsidized and free petroleum products in its areas of control. This came few minutes after Bashar al-Assad issued a decree to raise the salaries of the government employees.
The Syrian Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection set the price of subsidized diesel at 2,000 Syrian Pounds (SYP) per liter for consumers after it was sold at 500 SYP. The price of diesel provided for agricultural sector and industries, private hospitals and pharmaceutical manufacturers, became 8,000 SYP after it was 5,500 SYP.
Subsidized octane 90 gasoline prices increased from 3,000 SYP to 8,000 SYP per liter. In another resolution, the price of diesel provided for subsidized private bakeries reached 700 SYP after it was 500 SYP per liter.
One resolution set the price of premium octane 95 gasoline at 13,500 SYP per liter after it was sold at 10,000 SYP.
As for the industrial sectors, the price of free diesel became 11,550 SYP per liter. The price of one ton of crude oil was set at 7,887,500 SYP, and price of one ton of liquid gas was set at 9,372,500 SYP.
Exactly seven minutes before declaring these resolutions, al-Assad issued a decree to raise the salaries of the government employees by 100 percent, a move that was supposedly aimed to elevate the suffering of the Syrian people amid deteriorating economic conditions and high inflation rates scourging through Syria.
