ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – The total amount of pistachio in Syria yielded 47,000 tons during 2023, a source from the government’s Agriculture Directorate of Aleppo said on Monday.

He told North Press that about 60,000 hectares of farmlands were cultivated with 9,478,127 pistachio trees including 8,171,375 fruitful ones.

A single acre contains around 150-200 trees, the source added, the production rate is between 100 and 110 kilograms per acre.

Pistachio is one of the key crops that support the economy of Syria. It is of a high-quality making it coveted in external markets, according to the source.

The market price of one kilo of pistachio in Aleppo is between 70,000 SYP and 85,000 SYP ($6).

The source underscored that cultivating pistachio is highly prevalent in Idlib Governorate, northwestern Syria, with 4,566 tons this year.

The total amount of pistachio crop in Aleppo reached 32,380 tons, Hama 7,619 tons, Homs is 934 tons, and in Suwayda it reached 410 tons, the source noted.
