IDPs in Hasakah condemn Turkish attacks on northern Syria

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Dozens of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) IDPs in Washokani camp, west of Hasakah in northeast Syria, denounced the Turkish forces’ attacks on northern Syria.

On Friday, the Turkish forces shelled the center of the town of Tel Rifaat in Aleppo northern countryside with many shells, resulting in human and material losses, as the shelling hit a residential area and also targeted the hospital of the town.

The Turkish state has escalated its attacks against the region and the Tel Rifaat area, in which the IDPs of Afrin are living, a representative of the demonstrated people stated.

The town of Tel Rifaat, 35 km north of Aleppo city, has been a shelter for Afrin displaced people since 2018 following the Turkish invasion of Afrin and its countryside which resulted in the displacement of about 300,000 of the original inhabitants.

There are 1.662 displaced families from Afrin and 35 displaced families from Idlib live in Tel Rifaat, according to statistics carried out by Autonomous Administration of Afrin, which is currently operating in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

In an interview with North Press, Khawla al-Salem, an IDP from Sere Kaniye, called on the international community to stop the Turkish aggression against IDPs of Afrin, Tel Abyad, and Sere-Kaniye.

A similar statement was read in al-Arisha camp, south of Hasakah.

On Saturday, the medical staff of Avrin Hospital Aleppo northern countryside condemned the Turkish shelling of Tel Rifaat Hospital a day earlier, which led to casualties and material losses.

Turkey launched three military operations against northern and northeastern regions in Syria. The first was “Euphrates Shield” operation in 2016 where it occupied Jarablus and al-Bab, the second was “Olive Branch” operation in 2018 where it occupied Afrin region, and the third was “Peace Spring” in 2019 which resulted in the occupation of the two cities of Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad with their countryside.

Since then, Turkish human right violations continue against the residents of northeast Syria.
