Syrian passport ranks low globally

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian passport is currently ranked 107th globally followed by Afghan and Iraqi passports, according to the Henley Passport Index.

The index based on exclusive data provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to rank 199 passports globally, according to the number of destinations a country’s citizens can access without a prior visa.

If a visa is not required, the country gets a score for its passport, and this applies if citizens can obtain a visa on arrival, visitor’s permit or an Electronic Travel Authority.

If a visa is required or the passport holder needs to obtain a government-approved e-visa prior the departure, the passport gets a zero score.

Afghan passport comes at the bottom of the list, ranking 109th, it can access just 27 countries without requiring a visa in advance, after Iraq on rank 108th with 29 visa-free scores, and  Syria with 30 visa-free scores.

Pakistan ranked 106 with 32 visa-free scores, and Yemen ranked 105th with 34 visa-free scores.

On the contrary, Japanese citizens enjoy visa-free or visa-on-demand access to a record of 193 destinations around the world just ahead of Singapore and South Korea.

Germany and Spain ranked the third on the list whose citizens can have access to 190 destinations, followed by Finland, Italy, and Luxembourg.
