SNA factions cut down dozens of olive trees in Syria’s Afrin
AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), cut down on Saturday 87 olive trees for residents of Afrin region, north of Aleppo Governorate.
A local source told North Press that a group of Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction cut down 15 trees belong to a resident of the village of Qibar in Afrin.
Another group of the faction cut down 60 trees owned by a resident of the village of Kafr Zit in Afrin, according to the source.
In addition, a group of Civil Police faction, affiliated with the SNA, cut down 12 trees owned by a resident of the village of Trendeh in the city.
The source pointed out that the SNA factions cut down trees in the city and its countryside and sell them as firewood on local markets.
The Kurdish city of Afrin and its countryside has been under the occupation of Turkey and its affiliated SNA factions since March 2018 following the so-called “Olive Branch” military operation to push the People’s Protection Units (YPG) away under the pretext of preserving the “Turkish national security”.
