Protests against Syria-Turkey normalization renew in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, several areas in the city of Idlib and its countryside, and areas held by the Turkish-backed Syrian opposition factions witnessed mass protests by activists and residents, expressing their rejection to Syrian-Turkish normalization following a trilateral meeting in Moscow.
A protest was organized in the town of al-Dana north of Idlib, northwest Syria, entitles “We will not reconcile” following calls by activists of revolutionary uprising for protesting against Syrian-Turkish normalization.
Protestors and activists took to street in al-Mashtal Square in Idlib raising slogans with “We will not reconcile” “Reconciliation is betrayal of martyrs’ blood and revolution” “Turkey let down the revolution and people” on them, they also called for toppling of the Syrian government.
Turkish-held areas have been witnessing protests against normalizing ties with the Syrian government for three weeks after the trilateral meeting that brought together defense ministers of Syria, Turkey and Russia in Moscow late in December 2022.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu described those people who reject the normalization with the Syrian government as “very few groups” and noted that the opposition representatives have not showed any reaction regarding this step, according to Turkish media.
