Men of Dignity in Syria’s Suwayda expresses solidarity with Hasakah’s residents
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – The Men of Dignity Movement in the city of Suwayda, southern Syria, issued a statement yesterday expressing their solidarity with the residents of Hasakah, after ISIS attack on al-Sina’a prison.
The Men of Dignity is a self-defense militia established after the outbreak of the Syrian war to defend the Suwayda area. Described as a terror organization by Russia, it took an initial position against the Syrian government in the early days of the war but did not engage in any armed struggle with government forces.
“We, the people of Suwayda, announce our solidarity with our people in Hasakah, who were hit with the crimes and treachery of the terrorist organization ISIS, which had previously committed crimes in Suwayda governorate,” Men of Dignity said in a statement on its official Facebook page.
On January 20, ISIS members launched an attack on al-Sina’a prison, where thousands of ISIS members are detained.
On July 25, 2018, ISIS attacked Suwayda and killed about 220 people, in the largest death toll in the southern governorate since the outbreak of the war in Syria.
“We remember the martyrs in our prayers and stand by our brothers and compatriots who were displaced from their homes during the ISIS aggression,” the statement added.
“The statement represents the solidarity of the people of Suwayda with the residents of Hasakah against the threat of ISIS to the population,” Laith Wahid al-Balous, the son of the founder of the Men of Dignity movement, told North Press.
Yesterday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that they had taken full control of the al-Sina’a prison and its surroundings in Guweiran neighborhood in Hasakah.
The attack was the largest since the defeat of ISIS in March 2019, in Baghouz town, east Syria.
