US continues supporting allies in Iraq and Syria: US Defense Secretary
ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – On Saturday, Lloyd Austin, US Secretary of Defense voiced concern over Iran’s activity which destabilizes the region and stressed that the US will keep on supporting allies in Syria and Iraq to combat the Islamic State (ISIS).
Speaking at the Manama Dialogue in Bahrain, which is a platform convened yesterday, Austin said, “Biden’s administration is committed to Iraq’s sovereignty against any threatening party.”
“The US will keep on supporting its allies in Iraq and Syria to combat ISIS”, he added.
Austin called to collaborate to fight terrorism in Afghanistan being al-Qaeda or ISIS.
Countries of the Middle East face Iranian drones almost every day and confronting Iran’s threat is one of US top priorities. Iran is the main reason why the region lacks stability, Austin noted.
“We will strengthen sharing information with the Gulf states to face the threat of Iran and its proxies,” he stated.
Concerning Iran’s nuclear deal, Austin said we remain commitment to diplomatic outcome of the nuclear issue, but If Iran is not willing to engage seriously, then we will look at all other options, we will not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons.
