Blinken discusses Syria, Lebanon, Sudan with UAE’s bin Zayed

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met yesterday with the UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan and discussed the developments in Syria, Lebanon and Sudan.

The meeting took place on the margins of COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland, during which they discussed the latest developments in Syria and Lebanon, a statement by the US Department of State, said.   

During the meeting, Blinken reiterated the strong US support for the aspirations of the Sudanese people for democracy and underscored the need for the immediate restoration of Sudan’s civilian-led transitional government, the statement added.

The Secretary and the Foreign Minister also discussed other important bilateral and regional issues, according to the statement. 

“The United States is concerned about ensuring well balanced energy markets and calls upon key energy producers, such as the UAE, to further increase production until energy markets and broader economic conditions normalize in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
