Turkey-Iran sign promotion and cooperation relations memorandum

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, Turkey and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding concerning security, stressing the brotherhood relations between the two countries and refusal of any conspiracy powers to spoil this relation.

The memorandum was signed during a meeting between the Iranian Minister of Interior, Ahmad Vahidi and his Turkish counterpart Süleyman Soylu in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

“The new phase of the bilateral relations will work for the account of the two states’ people. Both Iran and Turkey show interest to broaden their strategic relations. Now it is time to enhance such relations,” Vahidi said in a press conference on Wednesday.

“Iran and Turkey discussed the cooperation to fight against terrorism, smuggling of drug and weapons and secure their borders; it was a really successful meeting,” Vahidi added.

In his turn, Soylu said “the memorandum aims to promote cooperation, especially in the field of security.”

“The memorandum prohibits all kinds of terrorist and illegal activities, particularly those relevant to borders between Turkey and Iran,” he added.

Soylu pointed to the importance of the border issue saying new joint groups have been made as proposed by the Iranian Ministry of Interior.

“The issue of illegal migration has been profoundly discussed especially following the recent events in Afghanistan. Continuous efforts are being made to prevent the migration,” he noted.
