US welcomes resumption of trade between Syria, Jordan

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the US State Department welcomed the Jordanian announcement of the resumption of commercial flights to Syria after a nine-year hiatus.

As a result of the security situation in Syria during a decade of war, commercial flights between Jordan and Syria stopped in 2012.

Jordan’s decision to resume commercial flights with Syria came a day after announcing the reopening of the Jaber [Nasib] border crossing allowing the resumption of land freight and trade between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the US welcomes the resumption of commercial flights between the two countries despite the ongoing Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act, which aimed to pressure the Damascus authorities and their supporters.

Earlier on Tuesday, Jordanian Prime Minister, Bisher al-Khasawneh met a Syrian ministerial delegation including the ministers of energy, water, agriculture, and transport.

During the meeting, the Jordanian Prime Minister discussed with the Syrian delegation the possibility of  accelerating the pace of transferring Egyptian gas and electricity to Lebanon, as well as the trade movement between the two countries.
