Elections to be held in NE Syria this year: Jazira, Euphrates Follow-up Committee

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Thabet al-Jawhar, member of the follow-up committee emanating from the National Conference for the People of Jazira and the Euphrates in northern and eastern Syria, revealed on Thursday, preparations to form a high electoral committee and forming an election law in preparation for holding general elections in the Autonomous Administration areas before the end of this year.

“A committee of 150 people from all Autonomous Administration institutions and civil society in general will be formed to reformulate the Social Contract that is the constitution for the people of north and east Syria,” al-Jawhar told North Press.  

Al-Jawhar’s speech came during a regular meeting in the city of Hasakah for the Follow-up Committee, which discussed the security, administrative and service situation in the northern and eastern regions of Syria.

In late November last year, the Syrian Democratic Council held the National Conference for the People of Jazira and the Euphrates, followed by the formation of a committee to follow up on the implementation of the decisions of the conference.
