The Committee of Training in the Autonomous Administration in the city of Darbasiya (55 km west of Qamishli), has finished a book fair yesterday after three days in which more than 2000 books were displayed and more than half of them were presented for free to the readers.

The exhibition displayed a variety of books about philosophy, thought and literature in both Arabic and Kurdish languages, in addition to a private book suite for children.

Nisreen Maami, a member of the preparatory committee for the exhibition told North-Press that their main goal of setting up the exhibition was to attract readers, pointing out that it was the first exhibition of its kind in the city, she described the turnout of the exhibition as great! According to the exhibition organizers, visitors were interested in books related to the Yazidi people and displayed a collection of books’ titles of old and modern editions.

For the goal to encourage reading, the preparatory committee of the exhibition provided about 1.400 books for free to readers and intellectuals who have visited the book fair.

It’s worth mentioning that the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria had previously held some book fairs in its region, as It’s scheduled to launch the third “Harkul” book fair in Qamishli some days later, but observers believe that the turnouts on book, reading rates and possessing books, is still weak in the region.
