The Assyrian Women s Committee celebrates International Women s Day and Mother s Day in Qamishli

The Women's Committee of the Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO) held a celebration to mark International Women's Day and Mother's Day, yesterday, Friday, at the organization’s headquarters in the Al-Wusta neighborhood of Qamishli, with dozens of Syriac women and other individuals in attendance.

The celebration started with a musical performance for Mother's Day in both the Syriac and Assyrian languages by the "Marhalat al-Tufoula" Assyrian youth group, followed by a Syriac woman reciting poetry describing the Syriac woman and her role in building the family and society.

A member of the Assyrian Women's Committee, Fahima Danho, also gave a speech in which she stressed the importance of the role of Syriac women in their struggle since the founding of the ADO, and the need for a balance between women and men to build an enlightened society.

In the content of her speech, Danho focused on the laws that help women to be an effective part of society on an equal footing with men.

The celebration included the presentation of a play entitled "Tammuz and Ishtar" that symbolizes the gods of love and fertility and the spring months. The celebration concluded with a performance of the "Ornina" Assyrian folk dance group, who danced to the tune of national songs.
