Near complete cessation of movement in the town of Tal Tamr due to coronavirus

On Monday, like the rest of the Syrian regions, the town of Tal Tamr in the northern countryside of Hasakah witnessed a state of almost complete lockdown after the shutdown of markets since this morning, except for food stores, bakeries. pharmacies, and civil institutions which have crucial work.

The internal security forces (Asayish) conducted patrols inside neighborhoods to enforce the measures declared by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

To implement the decisions made by the Administration, local buses were ceased and gatherings were prevented. These measures made the streets and markets of the town of Tal Tamr almost free of any movement.

The immobility of the population inside the town was interrupted by the sound of Global Coalition aircraft, as two helicopters flew over the sky of Tal Tamr on a reconnaissance tour of the area, in the absence of the U.S.-led Global Coalition and Russian forces on the ground. This was in contrast to the intensive road patrols on the lines of contact with Turkish-backed armed opposition groups.

Earlier, on Thursday, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria announced a quarantine in all its regions, starting from this morning, Monday, March 23rd, as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus.

Today, Monday, it issued a decision specifying the duration of the lockdown, which starts from the 23rd of March this morning at 6 a.m. and will last for 15 days, with the possibility of extension if it is necessary or in the public’s best interest.

On Sunday, Syria recorded the first case of coronavirus of a person coming from outside the country, according to what was published by the Syrian government official news agency SANA, quoting the Minister of Health Nizar Yazji.
