General Directorate of the Environment in the Euphrates region has recently started the implementation of the second phase of the afforestation campaign in the region under the slogan "Together to plant trees", which is the first of its kind at the level of the Euphrates region and aims to plant 20,000 trees.

Samir Faridoon Ali, co-chair of the General Directorate of the Environment in the Euphrates region, told North-Press that the campaign started on February 25 in the city of Kobani, where 1,200 trees were planted in the midst of streets, near schools and in parks.

Ali explained that they have started the second stage of the project, which includes planting trees in Kobani countryside, where trees are planted in the towns of ​​Serrin and Jalabiya, and a forest will be established in the village of Khorkhori in the western countryside of Kobani, and planting trees in the municipality of Qenaya and the municipality of Pender in the western countryside.

The trees that are being planted include 11 kinds, including cypress, pine, acacia, eastern lemon, coral), most of which were purchased from private plantations at a cost of up to 15 million Syrian pounds, according to General Directorate of Environment in the Euphrates region.

Mustafa Muslim, co-chair of the municipality of Serrin, explained that the municipality received 1,000 trees of palm, coral and cypress from the General Directorate of Environment, which are currently being planted in the southern entrance of the town, in addition to planting trees in April 4 Park that was planted with more than 1,000 trees in the past year, adding that the municipality will establish a new park within the town and plant more than 2,000 trees.

Jawaher Baku al-Gharaf, one of the participants in the afforestation campaign said that about 30 workers and employees from Serrin Municipality and the Council of Serrin District are participating in the campaign to plant trees, with the aim of preserving the environment in their town and increasing green areas.

It is noteworthy that the Environment Directorate has planted trees in the towns of Tal Ghazal and Sheran in the southern countryside of Kobani, as part of the first phase of the campaign launched by General Directorate of the Environment in the Euphrates region.
