Residents have expressed their discontent at this deliberate neglect of the neighborhood and the entire area of ancient Aleppo to the governor and other security officials who visited the location of the incident, considering the Syrian Ministry of Endowments and related authorities responsible for this tragic incident.
As residents complained about a week ago to the Ministry of Endowments to communicate with the concerned authorities to repair and restore the roof of the mosque, because it was threatened to collapse and fall, but they received no response from the officials.
Moreover, several walls in al-Wali Palace street in the same area are slanted and threatened to collapse onto passers-by at any moment, according to notes by the residents of the neighborhood.
It’s worth mentioning that the old neighborhoods are located in the outskirts of the Citadel of Aleppo, one of the oldest and largest castles in the world, which has witnessed fierce battles during the years of 2012-2016 between the Syrian government forces and the armed opposition groups during attempts by the latter to advance and control the area of the citadel, in addition to the aerial bombardment on the area.
