Al-Sharaa, Barzani discuss economic cooperation, Syria’s stability in Damascus
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani discussed economic cooperation, regional developments and efforts to strengthen security and stability during talks held on Monday in the Syrian capital, according to the Syrian presidency.
Barzani, who arrived in Damascus earlier in the day at the head of an official delegation, was received by al-Sharaa at the People’s Palace in the presence of Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani.
According to the Syrian presidency, the two sides reviewed ways to enhance relations, coordination and cooperation between Damascus and Erbil, with a particular focus on economic issues, in addition to discussing the latest regional developments and other matters of mutual interest.
Both sides underscored the importance of supporting security and stability and expanding regional cooperation, the presidency said.
Following the meeting, Barzani said he was pleased to visit Damascus at the invitation of the Syrian president, describing the current period as a “historic opportunity” for Syria’s recovery.
” After many years of hardship, Syria now has a historic opportunity to recover, rebuild, and prosper,” Barzani said. “I expressed my confidence in President Al-Sharaa’s vision and my belief that, under his leadership, Syria can advance toward greater stability, prosperity, and a brighter future for all its people.”
The Kurdistan Region president expressed confidence in al-Sharaa’s vision for the country, saying that Syria could move toward greater stability and prosperity under his leadership.
Barzani also reiterated his support for ” a stable and united Syria, where the rights of all ethnic and religious communities are protected.”
The Kurdish leader stressed the importance of Syria playing a positive role in promoting peace and security across the region, noting that Syria, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region share extensive common interests.
” As neighbors, Syria, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region share many common interests, and there is significant potential to expand economic cooperation for the benefit of all our peoples,” Barzani added.
Earlier on Monday, Kurdistan Region Presidency spokesperson Dilshad Shahab told North Press that Erbil attaches special importance to relations with Damascus and continues to support efforts aimed at ensuring stability in Syria.
