Syria’s military chief meets Russian commanders at Hmeimim
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian military chief Ali al-Naassan visits on Wednesday Russia’s Hmeimim Air Base in Latakia countryside and meets Russian military commanders stationed there.
The visit included Air Force Commander Brig. Gen. Asim Hawari and Naval Forces Commander Brig. Gen. Mohammad al-Saud, Syria’s Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The officials toured Hmeimim Air Base and held several meetings with Russian military commanders at the facility, according to the ministry.
On Aug. 9, the Defense Ministry said Syria and Russia had reached a memorandum of understanding to turn Russian military facilities at Hmeimim and Tartous into joint training and qualification centers.
